Testimonial - The Pendant Story I met Margaret and Scott Ayres sometime in 2002 or 2003 when I needed a watch repairs and a ring cleaned and checked. Their friendliness, honesty and warmth encouraged me to look around and spend some time getting to know them. Sometime in 2005, I was in the store to get something or have something repaired and noticed a pendant Margaret was wearing. As she was busy and Scott was assisting me. I asked Scott who designed the pendant Margaret was wearing. He informed me, very proudly I might add, that it was one of Margaret's designs. At a later time, I talked briefly to Margaret about her designs. At this time, I told her that I had some old jewelry that was sentimental to me but may not have any value and asked if she would go through it with me and help me decide what to do with some of it. In 2007 or 2008, I made an appointment with Margaret and packed up my "stuff" and sat down with Margaret for about 3 hours. Margaret asked me to tell her about it piece by piece as we went through the bags and helped me decide what to do. There were rings, bracelets and loose diamonds among the various pieces. When we finished Margaret reached across her desk and pulled out a baby ring, a pin and a diamond. As I had told Margaret, the baby ring was mine. It had been given to me in December of 1947 when I was released from the hospital to come home with my father. My mother died shortly after I was born and he wanted me to have something special on the day I came home since I had spent a little over 3 months in the hospital. The pin, a gold pin with a small chip diamond and the word Efird's 30 years on it belonged to my father. This was his family's store for which he worked until they were sold in 1954. The loose diamond was from my husband's father's wedding band which had been removed when my husband had the ring redesigned years before. Margaret like the sentiment behind these items so we decided these should go into a pendant together. When she said this, I could not have agreed more as this represented all of my family (my parents, my husband and I). Three weeks or so after I left the items with Margaret, I received a call to come down for a visit as there was something for me to see. I have never been so surprised, excited and pleased as when I saw the design Margaret created. From my story, Margaret had designed a pendant in gold which connected the baby ring, diamond and pin together as if to say 'we are a family'. Looking at the pendant even today the bar used as the connected appears to be a "7" representing the good fortune I had in finding Margaret Ayres and the lucky person I am to have an original design to remember my family. - Ruth E.
